An exhibition of The Free Group’s experimental works was held at Saman Gallery in October 16, 1977. Below is part of the text from the catalogue of the exhibition and a few samples of the works of the artists and the guests of the group.
“We, as the members of The Free Group, have felt the need to come together despite all our differences of art styles. The influence of the surroundings has developed the following needs among us: The need for a mental game, a search and an experience different from our dominant trends, to open a window to a different climate, for smelling, tasting, and assimilation, and for a rebirth in our main trends, The need to dismantle ourselves in order to re-examine our criteria, The need to break with repetition, The need for simplicity and getting intimate with everything in our lives that we do not see, or ignore their values in our intellectual isolation, The need to call for other prospects.
The Artists: Marco Gregorian, Abdolreza Daryabeigi, Sirak Melconian, Masoud Arabshahi, Behzad Hatam, Mohamad Saleh-Ala, Gholamhossein Nami, and Framarz Peelaram.
